Our Story

How it began, where we are and where we want to go.

Diamonds in the Community were formed in 2019 by six friends who were all members of the Airdrieonians Supporters Trust who decided they wanted to take the community work they had been doing together with the Trust to the next level, so they formed 'Diamonds in the Community'. And this is where the charity name came from, as they were all fans of Airdrie Football Club who are nicknamed the 'Diamonds'.

The initial aim of the charity was to make sports and sports related activities in the local area as accessible and inclusive as possible for the residents of the Airdrie, Coatbridge and surrounding areas. Walking Football, Walk & Talk Groups, Memories Groups and Sports Camps were merely the start of the activities however. With the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic the charity saw the need to help the communuity in other ways and started a 'Community Assistance Scheme'. This included prescription collections, grocery shopping, dog walking, befriending and more, quickly becoming the focus of the charity. And this has continued and matured us into a more diverse charity which saw us change our motto from 'Inclusion through sports' to 'Creating better futures together'.

And this is very much where we find ourselves today, if we see a need for a service in our community we will do our very best to provide this or signpost to another organisation where approriate.

We now operate the 'Monklands Baby & Family Clothing Aid' from our premises in the centre of Airdrie town centre. This is a more permanent extension of the 'Community Assist Scheme' where we are helping individuals and families with the provision of clothing for all family members from new-borns to the elderly. We can also provide every day essential baby and household items such as cots, beds, prams, nappies, toiletries and more.

As we move forward we want the charity to continue to grow and evolve to better the community and it's residents. If you feel the community is lacking a service that we could possibly provide then please feel free to get in touch.
